Our 2e learners have unique strengths, challenges, and emotional relationships with writing. Instructional approaches that work for neurotypical K–12 and college students often don’t fit this population. And with AI now on the scene, we have a whole new set of questions to address.

About Dr. Jessica GerardDr. Gerard is an ESL and English specialist at Silicon Valley International School in Menlo Park, CA. She has also taught writing at Stanford, Columbia, and the University of Arizona.
She is the founder of J. Gerard Consulting, which offers English language arts tutoring and small-group classes for neurodiverse, home-schooled, and multilingual middle and high school students. She’s also the proud mother of a middle-school 2e learner.
