About the event

Come learn everything you've always wanted to know about Special Needs Trusts and ABLE accounts, and how you and your family can use them!

Please join attorney Ellen Cookman for a lively and informative presentation on the basics of special needs trusts as well as a deeper dive into the following issues:

  • Should I have a stand-alone or testamentary special needs trust?

  • What is the difference between a first-party and third-party special needs trust?

  • When and how should I transfer assets into (i.e. “fund”) the trust?

  • What is an ABLE account and how can we use it?

Ellen Cookman is the principal of Cookman Law in Palo Alto, California. She is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law from the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.

Parents/caregivers, students, educators, health professionals, and community members welcome. Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be available. Free admission.
