When you suspect your child needs help, or just received a diagnosis, knowing where to start can be confusing and overwhelming. Founders of Parent Resource Advisors, Carmen O’Shea and Lauren Meltzer, will take you through a roadmap of how to sort through the incredible array of available resources for neuro-assessments, OT, speech, academic support, gender diversity, and more. They will walk through real life scenarios, including how to decide what to do first, what to do if you have time but no money or money but no time, and how to navigate private and public schools. Get the information you need to start to get resources in place for your child.
About this presenters:Carmen O'Shea is the mom of 2 gifted, quirky middle schoolers. She co-leads Parent Resource Advisors, a consulting firm supporting parents on topics relating to their neurodiverse or gender expansive children. She is also currently the head of Leadership Development at Synapse School in Menlo Park and executive HR consultant to the Sharks Sports & Entertainment organization. Prior to that she was the COO of an early stage start up in the healthcare space. She spent 20 years at IBM then SAP in executive consulting, marketing and HR roles, leaving as the SVP of Culture & Engagement. Carmen is a Board Member of the East Palo Alto YMCA, a member of the Stanford Cancer Institute’s Community Advisory Board, and a former Commissioner for the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission. She is a member of Chief at the C-level. Carmen graduated with a degree in Anthropology from Harvard and spent 7 years part-time in the Air National Guard upon commissioning as a lieutenant from AFROTC.
Lauren Meltzer is the mother of a 14 year old 2E daughter. In 2019, she co-founded Parent Resource Advisors, a consulting firm supporting parents on topics relating to their neurodiverse or gender expansive children. In 2020, she co-founded Loving Your Highly Sensitive Child which creates workshops to educate parents and teachers about raising children who are Highly Sensitive. She is also a certified Life Coach, working with women and parents. Earlier in her career, she received a Master in Education from Harvard, and spent over 10 years designing, researching and producing educational products aimed at schools, parents and children for various Silicon Valley companies. She has played leadership roles for the parent organization at Keys and Synapse Schools and co-led a subcommittee for Palo Alto School Districts, Schools for the 21th Century task force. She has also worked in local radio, hosting and producing programming for KALW, KPFA and KQED.Fee: $45
